YouTube Chapter

Chapter 5 of Jason McDonald’s, “Social Media Marketing Workbook” deals with YouTube. Well, I should say if you have the same edition as me Chapter 5 of the workbook is about YouTube since it seems like everyone’s book differs. Originally, I was confused. I was not aware businesses and companies could use YouTube as a way to promote themselves.

In my mind, YouTube has not changed in the past ten years. When I think of YouTube, I think of the platform being used by teens and preteens to listen to music while having the subtitles playing in the video. I am very much incorrect.

YouTube has grown and changed in so many big ways in the past ten years. Now, YouTube is an important and, in my opinion, an often overlooked tool for promotion. As everyone already knows, YouTube is a platform used to post videos. By having a separate storage place for the videos, you will be able to organize and find them easier.

YouTube can also be used a starting space for videos. The business, or blogger or whoever that decides to use it, can use YouTube as the original place to post videos but share them with their other various social media platforms.

By adapting to using YouTube, companies will also have a better chance of reaching a larger audience. Videos are a captivating resource. They look more fun and personal that text in a post but become more engaging than a singular picture. More information can also be shared in a video than in a picture. If the video contains a lot of relevant and relatable content, viewers could feel more compelled to share the video as opposed to a small amount of text from a post or picture.

YouTube has become popular with many companies. Businesses that are often thought of as dry and boring, like an insurance company, can make videos with the intention of entertaining the viewer and allowing them to forget just how unfun they really are.
