Out of complete and total curiosity, I recently decided to find out what the top most followed Instagram accounts are. Luckily, there is plenty of information and premade updated lists floating around the internet. Interestingly enough, the top nine accounts have over 100 million followers, with the tenth close behind the marker.
Surprising to me, the account with the most followers is Instagram’s. Instagram has just under 234 million followers. I suppose it makes sense, but I was unaware Instagram even had an account. Upon further investigation, I can understand why the account has so many followers. They have some pretty great posts. They’re artistic and varied in style. I am seriously considering joining the club and following the page.
Selena Gomez is the second most followed account. Considering the size of Instagram’s followers, it is almost believable to me that Gomez only has 135 million followers, almost 100 million less than the top most followed account. Gomez is considered the top most followed individual. Her posts are a great mix of beautifully posed and whimsically fun.
The third most followed account is Cristiano Ronaldo. The soccer star has over 123 million followers. It makes sense the majority of his posts are soccer-related. If you have an interest in soccer, I suppose you’re probably already following the account, but if you’re not, you should be. It’s a glimpse into a world many of us will never have access to.
With 118 million followers, Ariana Grande is the fourth most followed account. Some of the posts pop with color and others are shown in greyscale. To match her portrayed personality, the account is cutesy and playful.
Beyoncé is the fifth most followed account with 113 million followers. The account is enough to make the most dedicated Instagram user jealous. She has a clear theme and is strict about posting connected pictures in groups of threes to match the layout of Instagram’s display. It’s impressive. I cannot begin to try understanding the amount of time taken to make the account look as organized and glamorous as it is. I do not envy that responsibility.
The next five most followed accounts are:
6. Kim Kardashian with 110 million followers
7. Taylor Swift with 107 million followers
8. Kylie Jenner with 106 million followers
9. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with 103 followers
10. Justin Bieber with 98 million followers
This information neither improved or enriched my life. It just made me nod my head a little and say, “Hmm.” It was interesting to see the number of followers an account had and still knowing there are many more who do not follow the accounts. I hope you, too, nodded a little and went, “Hmm.” Hopefully, you didn’t waste too much time on this and can resume your day.
